K-5
The After School Program is a licensed childcare program open to Highlands Elementary School Students, ages 5-12 and grades K-5. During the school year we also offer a winter and spring camp, and are open on most Staff Development Days. Our schedule also complements the Highlands Elementary’s minimum day schedule throughout the year. Our program provides a safe and happy environment for children to enhance their physical and social development. We strive to leverage ‘teachable moments’ to practice the lifeskills necessary for children to be confident and comfortable citizens of our community. There’s quiet time for homework, creative projects and rousing games every afternoon, as well as an afternoon snack and a chance to participate in a wide array of enrichment classes and programs offered through the Rec.
Students are greeted at Highlands Elementary School by HRD staff. Students eat lunch at the School lunch court under the supervision of HRD staff and are then escorted on foot to the Rec Center. On very rainy days, transportation is provided. All Highlands Elementary School minimum days and teacher in-service days are included. See Seasonal Camps below for care options during school holiday breaks.
