Highlands Rec is looking to resume small group swim lessons this summer!

Highlands Recreation District statement regarding Group Swim Lessons

This summer, the Highlands Recreation District will return to offering group swim lessons to our community. We are able to offer group lessons safely following current safety guidelines and protocols provided by the State and County Health Departments and the CDC. Lessons promote water safety and drowning prevention, and group lessons enable the District to serve more children at a lower cost to families.

We feel group lessons are safe for the following reasons:

1)      All lessons are conducted outdoors, where the CDC has established that COVID-19 is very difficult to transmit due to UV rays essentially acting as a natural disinfectant.

2)      All lessons take place in water that is properly treated with the right amount of disinfectant. No transmission of COVID-19 has occurred in a pool that is properly treated with Chlorine or Bromine as a disinfectant. We use Chlorine here at the Highlands.

3)      All instructors are wearing face shields that are designed for protecting both the instructor and the student.

4)      The groups are no more than 3 students which enable us to space out the lane better than our traditional 4 students per group. In addition, lessons are taught outdoors and in chlorinated water which make it safer for your children.

If you have any questions or concerns, please let the Aquatics staff know. The safety of our community always comes first. Also remember that drowning prevention is an essential activity!

Underwater Easter Egg Hunt a HUGE Success!

Thank you to all of the families that participated in our Underwater Easter Egg hunt! Over 50 children took to the Highlands Pool in search of eggs that were exchanged for treats. We look forward to next year and having an even bigger turn out!
