A Message from the General Manager

Summertime is back in the Highlands!

On May 21st, the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) released its “Beyond the Blueprint” industry and sector framework that goes into effect on June 15, 2021. The new guidance provides that all sectors listed in the current Blueprint for a Safer Economy Activities and Business Tiers Chart may return to usual operations with some exceptions for mega events. Guidance for the use of face coverings is expected to continue particularly for unvaccinated persons but also for fully vaccinated persons attending crowded outdoor events, parades, festivals, and similar settings. School masking guidance remains in place and masks are required in youth settings.

What does this all mean for the Rec? The good news is that more will be offered at the Rec this summer and with greater capacity than we have seen over the past year. The Highlands Pool will kick off the summer during the Memorial Day weekend with the return of Recreation/Open Swim while adhering to capacity limits under the current Yellow Tier. The summer will also see the return of small group swim lessons with several safety measures in place to keep both the participants and swim instructors safe. Family Pool Nights will return this summer in combination with our Food Truck Fun Night special events featuring live music, food, and family friendly games and activities. Mark your calendars for Fridays, July 16th and August 20th for these fun-filled evenings.

This summer the Rec has several summer camps to choose from, including our own Summer Fun Zone for Grades K-8 that will feature many of your child’s favorite activities including swimming, sports, crafts, local hikes and special activities and events offered each week. For those looking for a variety of camp experiences, there are several specialty camps offered including Techventure, Mad Science, Chess Wizards, Dance, Rock Band and many more. All camps adhere to current health and safety guidelines for youth programs as provided by the California Department of Public Health.

Looking for a space for your private event or gathering this summer or fall? The Rec is now taking reservations for the Multipurpose Room and Gymnasium. To learn more, visit our web site at www.highlandsrec.ca.gov.

We look forward to seeing you this summer at the Rec!
